Former Prime Minister P.J. Patterson Welcomes New Acting Consul General to Toronto

The Most Honourable P.J. Patterson, ON, OCC, PC, QC, former Prime Minister of Jamaica, extends his congratulations and official welcome to Mr. Lloyd Hyde on his appointment as the new Acting Consul General of Jamaica in Toronto, Canada. Other staff changes will follow shortly in Toronto. 

Consul General Hyde assumes leadership at the Consulate General alongside Mr. Warren A. Lyon, who was appointed as Deputy Consul General in Toronto earlier this year. Together, they lead Jamaica’s diplomatic representation, diaspora affairs, and consular services across Ontario and the broader Canadian region.

Strategic Consular Appointments & Security Force Secondments

Alongside the leadership update in Toronto, the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service (MOFPS) announce key structural updates to Jamaica's overseas missions:

• New York Consulate Appointment: A new Deputy Consul General will shortly be appointed to the Consulate General of Jamaica in New York, designated from the ranks of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).
• Global Consular Policy Alignment: Moving forward, all newly appointed Deputy Consul Generals across all Jamaican Consular Offices globally will be active personnel from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) or the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) on official secondment.

This operational policy aligns security expertise with administrative leadership across Jamaica’s foreign missions to strengthen governance, citizen protection, and institutional capability abroad.
