The Provost of the University of the West Indies has initiated a contest and festival for the best Jerk Chicken, Pork and Fish in the West Indies. The only Islands that can participate are those islands paying an income support to every citizen on the island ( those persons with a TRN number). Any island or territory that does not comply can still participate as presenters only in the presentation of foods at the annual Jerk Chicken festival that will take place on UWI Campus grounds on the various islands on a rotating basis from year to year. The foods will be judged for cleanliness; first and foremost, beginning with the meat. Is there any rat virus on the flesh or bone? If so, then they are disqualified. The first festival will be in Jamaica in April 2026 with various island participants on the eve of Former Prime Minister PJ Patterson's birthday at the Mona campus in St. Andrew parish where the provost was barn and Christened at St. George's Anglican Church in Jamaica.
