The Jamaica Business Development Corporation and Gentrification:  The corporation helps old and new businesses reach new commercial standards with the use of new, emerging processes and technology.  This is in fact a form of renewal, revival or gentrification.  But, what is the point if we do not put the garbage in the garbage can and it appears on the roads and in empty lots? It's kind of...sad.  To ensure this does not defeat our happy goals, we have to ensure the garbage does not appear anywhere to the naked eye but is put in the garbage.  How do we get people to cooperate?  Recently, when passing through Up Town Kingston near Shortwood Road and Grant's Pen Road, we saw some garbage in a lot just behind one of the retail and grocery  shops next to a Pentecostal Church in the area. It felt rather down market and not like the uptown with good schools, modest, well kept homes nearby, modern Mega Mart Supermarkets and also convents.  There is also a Chicken and Tings Restaurant; one of my favourites; Chicken and Tings.... respect!!

So, what do we do because it looks like we are not sure who is to clean up the lot? There could  be other lots like it and we don't want to see it.  What is the solution?  The Jamaica Business and Development Corporation, as rumoured, says it is a symptom of urbanity and it must be cleaned up nonetheless since this is a tourism town and the drag on the environment demands an emergency response.

So, the Garbage Disposal and Sanitation Systems of Jamaica apparently will pay three workers 1 hour each of overtime work;  once a week to clean the yard behind the Maize and Retail Grocery. Other  yards will be dealt with in a similar fashion. After it is cleaned,  the JBDC will instruct the local Maize and Retail Grocery business to use the back lot as a parking space for as many vehicles that will fit; if at all possible. It will be paid parking with a parking lot monitor. Agriculture Jamaica will also use the space for fruit sellers with bags of mangoes.
